5th grade Wilson at Winter Street
Barbara Wilson believes the new Common Core State Curriculum, combined with multi-tiered implementation models, will impact the successful instruction of struggling readers. There are specific strategies embedded into Wilson that support and become useful to struggling decoders. Wilson has enhanced instructional support for teachers, improved teacher materials, improved student materials, and extended prevention/early intervention programs for weak decoders.
Wilson® Successfully teaching reading and spelling Our Philosophy
We believe that the ability to read opens up a world of possibilities to the individual. Reading is a door to personal, spiritual and intellectual growth as well as a necessity for a secure future in an evolving global economy. We also believe that literacy is a cornerstone of freedom and democracy.
The Challenge
Wilson recognizes that parents, educators, and society as a whole need and want a solution to today’s reading crisis. We understand the challenges involved in ensuring literacy success.
Their Mission
Our mission is to provide quality professional development and ongoing support so that educators have the skills and tools they need to help their students become fluent, independent readers, who are ready to explore the endless possibilities the world of reading has to offer.
Literacy Solutions: Wilson Multi-tiered Programs
We prepare educators to effectively use our multi-sensory structured language programs and strategies with fidelity to successfully teach reading and spelling to the targeted student populations.
Studies Prove Wilson Effectiveness! The evidence is in, and it is clear: The WILSON Reading System® (WRS), published for more than two decades, is successfully implemented in public school districts, private clinics, and adult education settings across the country. Other WILSON programs, Fundations® for K-3, Just Words® for grades 4-12 and adult, and Fluency®, are based on these same proven WRS principles.
The Wilson Reading System, Fundations, and Wilson Fluency have met the social content standards of the California State Board of Education. Although Just Words was in development at the time of review, the program was designed to meet these social content standards.
The following publications, citations, and studies provide Evidence of Effectiveness of Wilson programs' direct, explicit, and multisensory instruction.
